DSL Splitter
If you have had a dial up internet connection, then you know the drill. You get online, and you miss an important call. Or, you wait around all day for an important call to come through, afraid to get on the internet in case you miss it. With the popularity of the internet growing and growing, this kind of set up was never going to last for long. It was impractical for businesses and too much trouble for private internet users as well. That is where DSL technology comes in. DSL, also known as digital subscriber line, technology allows people to access the internet via their phone lines, but at a much faster speed than dial up. The even better news is that DSL technology allows you to use one phone line to access the internet and talk at the phone at the same time. Because DSL connections operated at a higher frequency than normal voice box modem connections, there is no interference. To be able to use one phone line for two uses, however, you need a DSL splitter or DSL filter. DSL splitters and DSL filters “split” your phone line, so that the voice service you need for your telephone and the higher frequency access you need for your internet connection are separated and directed in the right way. About DSL Splitters Most DSL connections operate through what is known as the Plain Old Telephone System, or POTS. POTS operates independently of newer, digital phone lines – the phone lines you see when you are driving down the road are part of POTS. To access the POTS system, you will need a DSL POTS splitter or a DSL POTS splitter filter, like the DSL POTS NID splitter brand or the DSL Tyco DSL splitter filter brand system, or a DSL POTS splitter schematic system (like Globaltech). These splitters will let you use the POTS system to connect to the internet without interfering with your phone service. DSL Splitters and DSL Filters – What is the Difference? DSL splitters and DSL filters perform the same function, but in different ways. Phone company or internet company employees usually have to install DSL phone splitters themselves, whether external DSL splitter or internal DSL splitters. DSL filters can be installed by you when you get your modem. The filters basically look like a double phone jack, and they let you plug your computer into one side and your phone into the other Filters are cheaper, but most professionals agree that DSL splitters are the most desirable of the two.
