ADSL stands for Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line. Using an ADSL router and ADSL modem, users can access the internet via the phone lines like any DSL internet connection. The difference between ADSL line and standard DSL lines are that ADSL line work faster in one direction. That means that internet access is faster coming into the computer that what is being sent out from the computer, or more simply put, downloading is faster than uploading (hence the “asymmetrical” name). This ADSL technology is usually ideal for most home internet users, who want to be able to quickly download music, videos and games but who upload very little to the internet (for this reason, ADSL web hosting is slower than some other connections). ADSL comes in a variety of speeds, depending on the modem you get; ADSL broadband modems are the fastest.
