What is Broadband?
Broadband is a word that you no doubt have heard used time and time again. Broadband has revolutionized the way that people use the internet, and if you have ever tried to get an internet connection installed in your home, or you are considering upgrading your internet connection, words like broadband, DSL broadband, cable broadband, and others have likely been bandied around a lot. But what is broadband? Do you need it? How does it work, and how do you get it? The definition of broadband really isn’t necessarily related to the internet as well. Broadband is, in essence, a broad band of wires that is capable of carrying several different frequencies of information at one time. Because these broadband wires can carry so much information, and so many different types of information, they are ideal for creating fast internet connections, which is the most common use of broadband wires. So, what is a broadband connection and what is broadband internet? It is simply a fast internet connection that is transmitted across broadband wires. What Are The Different Types of Broadband? To define broadband alone is not really enough to get all the information you need to make an informed decision about your internet connection type. You also need to answer questions like what is DSL and broadband, what is wireless broadband networking, what is mobile broadband, and what is cable broadband. Cable and DSL broadband definitions are quite simple. Cable broadband is broadband wiring through the cable system and DSL broadband is broadband wiring through the phone system. As a general rule of thumb, cable broadband is faster than DSL broadband. What is wireless broadband? Wireless broadband is broadband that can be received by your computer without being actually plugged into the broadband modem. Mobile broadband is broadband that you can “take with you.” With a mobile broadband card, you can find a broadband connection anywhere you can get a signal, which makes it extremely popular with business people. Do You Need Broadband? To fully experience what the internet has to offer, you really do need a broadband connection. There are lots of different levels of broadband connection speeds available, so you should be able to find one that meets your needs and your budget. Contact your internet service provider to explore your broadband options. They can also clear up any other broadband questions you may have, like what is baseband and broadband, and so on.
